STILLWATER — Gary Patterson exited stage left Sunday, meaning Iowa State’s Matt Campbell is the second-most tenured coach in the Big 12; the gap between first and second might as well be a bike ride from Lubbock to Morgantown.
The Cyclones hired Campbell ahead of the 2016 season, 11 years after Mike Gundy took over at Oklahoma State.
Not including interim coaches, current Big 12 schools apart from OSU have hired on average 3.7 head coaches since Mike Gundy took over in 2005. That average will jump up to 3.9 when TCU and Tech make official hires.
