When Dick Soergel and Mike Mulvihill returned to Oklahoma State, they never predicted they would receive championship rings.
During the past weekend at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, OSU honored Soergel, Mulvihill and their Cowboy baseball teammates. Sixty years ago, they won OSU’s only College World Series championship. Members of the 1959 team and their families stood along the third-base line as fans welcomed them with applause and cheers before OSU’s victory against West Virginia on Saturday.
Then the unexpected part happened. Members of the 2019 OSU baseball team walked out of the dugout and presented the 1959 players with championship rings, gifts they didn’t get when they won the championship.
