Last October, Danny Ainge came to the table and offered Marcus Smart a 4-year $50 million dollar extension. Marcus turned that down in hopes of getting closer to $60 million this summer. As it turns out, Smart will re-up in Beantown for 4 years and $52 million.
After resigning Aron Baynes, Boston didn’t have much room to spare to avoid the $123 million luxury tax line. This is important for Boston because they will have to pay Kyrie Irving (and maybe Terry Rozier??) next summer and Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum the two following summers, which will likely launch the C’s in to the repeater tax by 2022.
