It’s not often that a high school loses a head coach to a Division I college program, but Mount St. Mary saw it happen when Derick Perkins was scooped up by Texas Tech last offseason.
Perkins, who is originally from Midland, Texas, which is south of Lubbock, was hired as Mount St. Mary’s head coach in 2015 at the age of 25. The next season, he led the Rockets to their first playoff appearance in more than two decades.
He was hired at Texas Tech in May as an offensive graduate assistant, working with inside receivers under head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
