In August, John Smith was announced as a finalist for the 2019 U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame class. Today the inductees were announced and the two-time Olympic Gold Medalist was not included.

There were a total of five Olympic athlete inductions for the class. They include:
- Lisa Leslie, basketball
- Natia Liukin, gymnastics
- Misty May-Treanor, beach volleyball
- Apolo Anton Ohno, short track speedskating
- Dara Torres, swimming
