There was a time Adrian Peterson had the NFL rushing record in his sights.
Breaking Emmitt Smith’s record of 18,355 career rushing yards still was a long shot. But through the 2013 season, it wasn’t laughable to suggest that Peterson had a shot.
The ex-Sooner was maniacal when it came to fitness. He was a yardage machine. And he quite clearly liked to play football.
At the age of 28, at the end of that 2013 season, Peterson had 10,115 rushing yards in his seven Minnesota Viking seasons.
NFL tailbacks don’t last real long, so it wasn’t like anyone could guess Peterson to play another seven seasons at the level he had produced for the Vikes.
