The Chicago White Sox agreed to terms on a contract with former Carl Albert catcher Corey Zangari last week, and it appears they paid more than his slot value.
Zangari was awarded a $510,000 signing bonus, which is well above the slot value for pick No. 172, according to MLB.com. The normal value for that pick in the sixth round is $284,800.
Zangari was named The Oklahoman's All-State and Big All-City Player of the Year over the weekend after he hit 19 home runs and drove in 64 runs to lead Carl Albert to a Class 5A state runner-up finish after winning three straight titles.
