Gundy notebook: Gundy tells Pickens about stadium atmosphere

As Mike Gundy sat outside and drank his morning coffee, he decided to make a phone call.

It was the day after the Oklahoma State football team’s home season opener. The Cowboys crushed Missouri State 58-17, and the stadium’s giant new video board made its debut.

Gundy, OSU’s coach, wanted to tell the venue’s namesake about the game-day environment.

Although Gundy couldn’t reach T. Boone Pickens on Friday morning, he left a voicemail and talked to Pickens for 10-15 minutes on Sunday, he said.

One day before the season opener, Pickens released a statement in which he announced that he planned to attend every Cowboy football game this season.
