When Mike Gundy got home from the office Sunday night, he tuned his television into Sunday Night Football.
The Steelers were facing the Chargers, and it was Pittsburgh's first game since its starting quarterback Mason Rudolph, a three-year starter for Gundy at Oklahoma State from 2014-17, was knocked out cold on the field a week prior after taking a terrifying hit from veteran safety Earl Thomas.
As he went through the NFL's concussion protocol, Rudolph watched Pittsburgh's 24-17 victory from the sidelines as Gundy watched from his Stillwater home.
Rudolph's scary injury didn't just shake up the OSU world, but it sent shockwaves throughout the entire football community, as television cameras capturing his lifeless body on the field triggered emotions from viewers nationwide.
