Jurence Mendoza couldn’t contain his energy.
His enthusiasm was apparent as he practiced on the court and jumped in place before his doubles match with Lucas Gerch in Oklahoma State’s 4-1 victory against No. 22 Columbia.
Gerch, a senior, and Mendoza, a junior, defeated Columbia’s Richard Pham and Victor Pham, brothers and the No. 8 collegiate doubles pair in the nation, in a 6-4 match Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
In a quick start for the No. 13 Cowboys in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Gerch and Mendoza spurted forward with an early 3-0 advantage, but the match was not free of struggle for the Cowboys.
