With a blast into the bullpen, Alix Garcia reminded the crowd of the Oklahoma State baseball team’s familiar power-hitting ways.
Garcia’s home run laid the foundation for the Cowboys’ 3-1 victory against UConn in the NCAA regional final on Monday night in the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. OSU established itself as a tenacious, out-of-the-park hitting team throughout the season, but that identity waned in a loss to the Huskies on Sunday, when the Cowboys had no homers.
Although power hitters Trevor Boone and Colin Simpson couldn’t find a groove at the plate in the final game, Garcia, a junior first baseman, ended the Huskies’ 1-0 lead with his leadoff home run to left.
