STILLWATER – An OSU wrestling fan, wearing an orange sweater and hurrying toward the building named after a wrestling coach, turned his head Sunday to share his feelings 30 minutes before his Cowboys took the mat against Iowa.
“I’ve got butterflies,” he said. “It’s like I’m wrestling.”
Every year or two at Gallagher-Iba Arena, along comes a match that reminds you the ancient sport is alive and well in Stillwater. A match that reminds you of the old Gallagher Hall days. A match that makes you think the refurbished cathedral wasn’t built too big.
OSU-Iowa has replaced Bedlam as the state’s biggest wrestling event, and the Cowboy fans responded Sunday, with a sellout crowd of 13,811.
