Costello gave way early to junior quarterback Drayton Joseph after suffering a head injury in the first half. The Tritons were able to come away with a 21-20 win over Mission Viejo to become South Coast league champs and end a 19-year losing streak to the Diablos. Costello finished with 37 yards on 5-of-10 passing with offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich watching. Joseph finished with 278 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions as Costello’s replacement.
