Fouls fly in Cowboys' exhibition victory

Mitchell Solomon and Jeff Newberry defend the basket. The Cowboys defeated the East Central Tigers 94-66 in an exhibition in Gallgher-Iba Arena on Nov. 6.

Oklahoma State came away with a 94-66 victory in its exhibition against East Central, but it was the number of fouls, not points, that drew the attention of the Cowboy basketball coach.

In the offseason, the NCAA added rules limiting hand checking and physical post play, among other changes. The new sensitivity surrounding touchy defense has led to an increase in fouls around the start of college basketball.

In Friday’s exhibition, the Cowboys and Tigers combined for 57 fouls.
