Whitney Whitehorn stepped to the plate at Cowgirl Stadium with her eyes wide, seeing Madi Sue Montgomery, Sydney Pennington and Jessi Haffner all on base.
With two outs and two strikes, Whitehorn hit a grand slam over the left-field wall in the first inning, helping propel the Oklahoma State softball team to an 8-1 victory against Iowa State in the Big 12 opener. OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said Whitehorn, a senior designated player, has worked hard and when opportunities have arose. He said she has made them count.
“Any time you can start a game off and get a four-run lead, that is a nice treat,” Gajewski said.
