Two gaming chairs, a pair of controllers, a 50-inch monitor, a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One sit side-by-side in a small corner of the Competitive Sports office.
This setup represents the baby steps for esports at Oklahoma State University.
This spring, esports is making its debut as one of the sports offered within OSU’s intramural program. Seven video games are featured in the competition, including “FIFA,” “NBA 2k19,” “Madden 19,” “Overwatch,” “League of Legends,” “Fortnite” and “Rocket League.” There are about 100 players registered.
Sylvain Tchaptchet, a graduate assistant with OSU competitive sports, said it took 14 months of research and preparing to bring esports to the OSU campus.
