Early offense, elite pitching carries OSU to opening day win

It had been 347 days since the Cowboys last took the field, but now they are winners on opening day.

OSU got the jump on Wichita State right out of the gate with three runs in the first, and that’s all that was needed the rest of the way, backed by a masterful team-wide pitching performance that allowed just one run.

“I didn’t expect to play a perfect game, but I loved the effort and I thought that was a perfect way to start,” coach Josh Holliday said.

The Cowboy offense exploded in the first inning when Max Hewitt brought home Caeden Trenkle on a fielder’s choice to left field, followed by Alix Garcia sending a ball into the right-center gap, bringing home two more.
