Doug Gottlieb, one of CBS’ lead basketball analysts and a former Eddie Sutton point guard, posted on cbssports.com an open letter to the Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday night. Gottlieb’s mission: get Sutton inducted into the Springfield, Mass., institution.
We’ve written about Sutton’s candidacy before. It’s a tough sell. The Basketball Hall of Fame is an Eastern institution historically. If you coached at St. John’s, your chances of induction are about five times greater than if you coached equal success at Kansas State. The NBA’s rise over the last few decades has further eroded the available slots for the college game.
