The Cowgirls had mixed results in their second day of the Michele Smith Pediatric Invitational. Oklahoma State defeated Saint Joseph’s 5-0 before falling to the University of South Florida 12-4.
Brandi Needham started for the Cowgirls (6-4) against Saint Joseph’s and turned in a stellar performance, pitching a complete-game shutout. Needham allowed only six baserunners and struck out four.
Sophomore Madi Sue Montgomery drove in three of the Cowgirls’ runs with a triple in the bottom of the fourth inning. Montgomery boasts a batting average of .348 early in the season.
Pitching was a larger struggle in the Cowgirls’ second game.
