The Oklahoma State men’s basketball team staved off a late Connecticut run to beat the Huskies 98-90 in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii.
During the final six minutes of the game, up 77-69, the Cowboys matched UCONN point-for-point. Phil Forte and Jawun Evans each capped the game with a pair of free throws in the final minute of play.
Evans, a sophomore, finished the game with 35 points, leading both teams in scoring.
First-year coach Brad Underwood’s high-pressure defense forced 18 turnovers and had 18 steals.
