Cowboy comeback comes up short

As chaos reigned under the basket, the ball rolled peacefully on the back of the rim.

There were 23 seconds left in overtime when junior guard Avery Anderson tried to tie the game with a layup. He drove hard, getting to the hoop while reaching the ball out with his right hand. Instead of going in, the ball rolled slowly across the rim and off and into the mass of players below.

Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State 66-62 on Saturday in Norman. The Cowboys had won four straight Bedlam games, but they struggled from the tip against their Big 12 conference rival.
