Coats, Cowgirls win close one against Texas

Heading into the seventh inning with a one-run lead, Shea Coats focused on one out at a time.

The Oklahoma State senior right-hander retired the next three batters to clinch the Cowgirl softball team's 2-1 victory against Texas on Saturday in Cowgirl Stadium.

Coats allowed only three hits, striking out seven Longhorns during her third complete game of the season.

“I just try to keep the same mentality and approach every game, all game,” Coats said. “If I can do that, there’s no pressure.”

Madi Sue Montgomery accounted for the Cowgirls’ only hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning; a full-count, two-out home run that blasted off the right-field light pole to score Kristin Reasnor.
