STILLWATER — Confetti exploded into the air from the corners of the stage while Oklahoma State cheerleaders danced to the Cowboy Marching Band’s rendition of “Ride ‘Em Cowboys”.
Pistol Pete led the crowd in a cheer, with one side chanting “Boone,” and the other responding with “Pickens.”
Boone Pickens always wanted a national championship at Oklahoma State, and Wednesday was a championship-worthy celebration.
Inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, Pickens’ life was celebrated in Cowboy pep rally style with a crowd of close to 2,000.
Larry Reece, best known as the voice that comes over the Boone Pickens Stadium speakers on game day, opened the event to remember “a man who left us better than he found us.
