Thirty-three months ago, OU president David Boren famously said the Big 12 was “psychologically disadvantaged.”
Soon enough, Boren will no longer be the Sooner president. He's retiring; regents are voting Monday on a successor.
But Boren's presidency lasted longer than the psychological disadvantage.
These are not the salad days of the Big 12. Big 12 football remains overshadowed by the SEC, Big 12 revenues long-term still seem suspect when compared to the SEC and Big Ten, and Big 12 geography still makes the league vulnerable should conference realignment bubble again, and the Big 12 remains two teams shy of a dozen.
