Big 12 football efficiency: Sooners epic and historic, both ways

The numbers keep getting better and better for the Oklahoma offense, while getting worse and worse for the Oklahoma defense.

It’s really an amazing statistical year for the Sooners. It’s quite probable that this Kyler Murray-led offense is the greatest in OU history. It’s quite possible that this no-led defense is the worst in OU history, though I would have to take a deep dive into 1996 and 1997 to be sure.

In my Big 12 efficiency rankings, I judge offenses on how frequently they score. I don’t care about points per game. A game could have relatively few possessions (Texas had seven possessions against Kansas State) or relatively many possessions (West Virginia had 16 possessions against OSU).
