Earlier in the season, coach John Smith said any win for his team at heavyweight was a bonus, and he just hoped they fought hard and didn’t give up that bonus.
However, after losing two of the first three matches and trailing heading into the heavyweight match, Oklahoma State needed a win at that weight to stop the bleeding.
Smith said he thought about going with someone else, but ultimately went with Austin Harris, despite his recent struggles, as the OSU wrestling team defeated Oklahoma 27-8 Sunday in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
“When I felt like we needed to win [heavyweight] where we were, losing two of the first three matches, I went with him,” Smith said.
