Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton remembers every detail of that day.
He was 12 years old. The weather was nice, he wore blue shorts and a grey t-shirt riding his bike around the New York City neighborhood he called home. He enjoyed playing outside, where as many New Yorkers know, police sirens are as common as any sound outside.
But something was different about them that day.
“(Police sirens) very rarely alarm you especially if you don’t think you’re part of the situation,” Boynton said. “So I’m riding my bike and probably 100 yards behind me, I hear a police siren.
