Oklahoma State alum Alex Dieringer defeated Bekzod Abdurakhmonov, 8-2, to win the 74-kilogram men’s freestyle title at the Bill Farrell International this past weekend.
Dieringer, the 2016 Hodge Trophy winner and three-time NCAA champion, made his way to the final bout by recording three straight 10-0 technical fall wins over Paul Saraiva, Quinton Godley and Chance Marsteller.
In the final bout, Abdurakhmonov scored an opening takedown then Dieringer took over. Dieringer tied the match 2-2 at the break before adding a four-point carry and a gutwrench to upset the defending Farrell champion.
It is Dieringer’s first gold medal at an international event.
