John Smith knew his team couldn’t go a full weekend without wrestling.
Smith, Oklahoma State’s wrestling coach, has frequently voiced his disdain for extensive periods without wrestling.
On Thursday, Smith had his eyes set on Sunday’s double header in Morgantown against Columbia and West Virginia. One day later, West Virginia athletics announced that Sunday’s tri-meet was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the West Virginia wrestling program.
Oklahoma State’s Sunday was open, meaning the Cowboys were, at the time, scheduled to go a full weekend dual free.
“I knew we couldn’t go (a weekend) without wrestling,” Smith said.
