If not for guidance and a little encouragement from her parents, Katelyn Loecker might have stopped playing basketball after the first grade and never put on a Cowgirl uniform.
Loecker was introduced to basketball at 2 or 3; she remembers picking up a ball to shoot and dribble for the first time. Despite her involvement in the sport at a young age, she wasn’t obsessed with it.
Jackie Loecker, Loecker’s mother, recalls the moment her daughter initially became engrossed with basketball. Loecker remembers the situation well, too. She was a second-grader playing basketball for fun at a local YMCA in McPherson, Kansas.
