T. Boone Pickens always wanted his alma mater to thrive.
His monetary donations to Oklahoma State University made that more possible than ever. Throughout his lifetime, Pickens has given or committed more than $652 million to the university for both athletics and academics.
None were bigger than his 2006 donation of $165 million, a college athletics record. That helped shape the football stadium that now features Pickens’ name into what it is today.
“Unquestionably, $652 million is a lot, and there are no doubt critics out there who would champion it going for broader, societal issues,” Pickens wrote in his final letter to fans late last month.
