Maurice Calloo quickly realized his role had shifted.
Calloo, a 6-foot-8-inch freshman forward, arrived at Oklahoma State with confidence. He had played for West Virginia’s Huntington Prep school and Virginia’s Oak Hill Academy, schools known for their esteemed basketball programs and alumni who have thrived in the NBA.
When Calloo endured his first strenuous Cowboy basketball workout, reality became clear. The high school glory was fading.
“You think you’re gonna go here and be the man,” Calloo said. “But it’s a different beast in college.”
As Calloo and the Cowboys (7-8 overall, 1-2 Big 12) battle through their conference schedule, he is adjusting to the intensity of Big 12 play.
