Bob Stoops is excited about again having Landry Jones as his quarterback. Stoops just isn’t sure if Jones will quarterback the Dallas Renegades in their XFL debut Sunday in Arlington Texas.
Jones, who quarterbacked Stoops’ Sooner teams from 2009-12, suffered a knee injury in training camp in early January. He’s returned to practice this week, but Stoops said Thursday night the Renegrades staff will decide Friday about Jones’ status for the franchise opener Sunday against the St. Louis Battlehawks.
Stoops, who retired from OU in June 2017, returned to coaching with the XFL, and one of his first personnel moves was signing Jones, who spent five years as Ben Roethlisberger’s backup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
