Why Texas-Oklahoma remains the greatest annual sporting event in the Lone Star State

Once again we were reminded this week why Texas-OU remains the greatest annual sporting event in Texas, a statement that covers any and all automobile races, footraces, pig races, tractor pulls, turkey shoots, rattlesnake hunts, rasslin’, rodeos, baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, the world’s longest canoe race and the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred.

Not to mention the various ways Jerry Jones turns a quick buck.

Anyway, as ESPN.com’s story goes, it was in 1999 when Mike Leach, then Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator, hatched a plot involving an artfully planted play script and unwitting dupes, played by Texas assistants.

Mack Brown’s coaches ultimately realized the script they’d found was a ruse, and Texas won convincingly in spite of it.
