Why OU softball faces a challenge — and why Sooner coach Patty Gasso seems up to it

NORMAN — Patty Gasso has done lots of things in her two-plus decades at the helm of Oklahoma softball.

Pile up wins.

Fill trophy cases.

Build a powerhouse where few thought it possible.

But one thing the Sooner softball coach hasn't done much is hire pitching coaches. She did it when she first came to Norman in 1995, then a year later when she promoted Melyssa Panzer into the job.
