It's been nearly a year since the FBI announced that a widespread investigation into big-time college basketball had uncovered extensive corruption. Bribery. Fraud. Conspiracy.
The NCAA vowed to take action, and earlier this week, it delivered on that promise.
It deserves credit for that — but little else.
Even though the NCAA called its reforms "profound and meaningful," those have not been the sentiments shared by those in and around college basketball. The changes have been called "smoke and mirrors" and "a PR stunt" "a power grab disguised as "reform."
I agree with the NCAA that these changes are profound but not in the way that the organization hopes.
