NFL gossip columnists kept insinuating that the prospective coaching pool was a little shallow this season. That if you were on the fence about firing your coach, might be best to wait. More jobs than qualified coaches to fill them.
I didn’t really buy it. The NFL has 32 teams. In any given season, about half have had reasonable facsimiles of success. About half of those have shown sustained success with the current administration. That means about eight staffs can generate confidence that they know what they’re doing.
That’s anywhere from eight to 16 coordinators who ought to be decent candidates.
