University of Oklahoma to keep tuition flat for second straight year

For a second straight year, the University of Oklahoma is keeping tuition rates flat.

The OU Board of Regents voted on Tuesday evening to not raise tuition and also provide faculty and staff with salary increases; the first staff raise in five years.

The decision comes almost a year since then-president James Gallogly announced that the school was in financial trouble, forcing OU to cut programs and layoff staff in an effort to rework the budget. The OU regents report that $50 million has been saved in cost-cutting efforts the past year.

Interim President Joseph Harroz, who replaced Gallogly after he announced his retirement in May, said despite the turmoil OU has kept student affordability a top priority.
