Entering the season, many believed that Trevor Knight would be the starting quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners. As a sophomore, he threw for 2,300 yards and fourteen touchdowns, while rushing for 339 and five touchdowns.
As a true freshman, he led the Sooners to a 45-31 upset win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, where he threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns. He had all the pieces to hold on to the reigns this season.
However, he lost the starting job to Baker Mayfield and hasn’t been given the opportunity to win it back since. Mayfield has done a terrific job for the Sooners this year, throwing for 3,082 yards and 31 touchdowns against just five interceptions, while having the Sooners at an 8-1 record and right in the middle of the College Football Playoff picture.
