The College Football Playoff committee on Tuesday released its fourth rankings of the season. Its next rankings will be the list that matters -- Sunday morning, determining the playoff field.
As usual, committee chairman Gary Barta, the athletic director at Iowa, and Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff, held a teleconference. Here is the transcript, plus my take on each response.
Gary Barta: I might note that a unique week in that 12 of the 25 ranked teams did not play this past weekend due to COVID or other issues. I had mentioned before, and the committee has talked a lot about in 2020, it's a vexing problem to try to compare teams that have played 10 or 11 games to those that have played five or six, and that certainly has been the case.
