Tommy McDonald, OU Hall of Famer, dies at 84

PHILADELPHIA — Tommy McDonald, a key player in Oklahoma's 47-game winning streak in the mid-1950s, has died. He was 84.

McDonald played for Bud Wilkinson's Sooners from 1953 to 1956, becoming the first player in school history to score a touchdown in every game of the season (1955) and winning the Maxwell Award as the nation's most outstanding player in 1956.

McDonald was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

As a pro, McDonald was a speedy and sure-handed receiver who teamed with quarterback Norm Van Brocklin to help the Philadelphia Eagles win the 1960 NFL championship.
