Tommy McDonald was quite the character. From his days winning bets for his dad racing somebody’s son in New Mexico to tossing his Pro Football Hall of Fame bust into the air on the steps of the Canton, Ohio, shrine, McDonald was always a unique personality.
But McDonald also was quite the ballplayer.
McDonald, one of Bud Wilkinson’s greatest OU players, died over the weekend at age 84.
McDonald, who won every game during his three-year Sooner varsity career, finished third in the 1956 Heisman Trophy voting, behind Notre Dame’s Paul Hornung and Tennessee’s Johnny Majors.
