Thomas Lott knows the frustration of missing out on a national championship

Thomas Lott was one of Barry Switzer's greatest wishbone quarterbacks. He came out of San Antonio's John Jay High School and became a 2 ½ year starter for the Sooners. He eventually became the answer to an all-time trivia question — the only player to play under head coaches Switzer, Bud Wilkinson (with the St. Louis Cardinals) and Chuck Fairbanks (with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL). Lott eventually went into coaching, trains young players, has written a book for parents of young athletes, co-hosts Switzer's Coaches Cabana show and is a public speaker. Lott lost only three games his final two seasons, 1977-78, but two of those defeats likely cost OU national championships, so Lott knows how Baker Mayfield feels.
