NORMAN — Her first memory of playing in the Women’s College World Series was a simple one for OU’s Ashli Barrett.
Before their debut in the event 20 years ago, the OU catcher and her batterymate, Jennifer Stewart, walked up the stairs to the medical tent and heard the crunch of their metal spikes hitting the concrete with each step.
Barrett had waited a long time hear that sound.
She’s been to the WCWS growing up, watching Lisa Fernandez and UCLA dominate the event.
As they walked, Barrett and Stewart pointed out the young girls watching the game that was in progress and remembering the days when they were the young girls dreaming of playing for a championship.
