'The start of something new': Sooners share Big 12 wrestling title with Oklahoma State

TULSA — Dom Demas bounced to his feet and flexed his muscles. He was a Big 12 champion once again.

Demas, Oklahoma’s 141-pound junior, defeated Ian Parker of Iowa State in a thrilling, double-overtime match to extend the Sooners’ lead in team scoring at the Big 12 wrestling championships on Sunday at the BOK Center in Tulsa.

Still, after OU’s Mitch Moore lost to Oklahoma State’s Boo Lewallen at 149 pounds, all the Sooners could do was watch and wait to see if that lead would hold up.

And it did — sort of.

When Oklahoma State’s AJ Ferrari came up short of bonus points in his victory over Wyoming’s Stephen Buchanan, it sealed a tie between Bedlam rivals as Big 12 team champions.
