The latest case in point: the transfer portal, the symbol of a more relaxed approach by the NCAA to the rules regarding player movement.
Instead of having to deal with sometimes onerous restrictions imposed by their current school -- like exclusions of conference schools, regional schools and schools on upcoming schedules -- players contemplating a transfer could just notify their schools to enter their names in NCAA database beginning just over a year ago. Then coaches at other schools would be free to contact them.
