There was a young boy named Kyler Murray terrorizing opponents on the football fields near Lewisville's Lake Park. The way people described the quarterback to Brewer, he looked like a young Michael Vick.
In addition to watching his nephew play, Brewer wanted to see if Murray lived up to the billing.
"I went out and watched him and he scored, like, seven touchdowns," said Brewer, Murray's youth basketball coach from the ages of seven to 10.
The legend that started in Lewisville spread across the Dallas-Fort Worth area when Murray won his first state title at Allen in 2012.
