Pat Summitt sat in front of cameras and reporters inside her team's arena on what was supposed to be one of her finest hours.
The NCAA had decided to send the Women's Final Four to Knoxville, Tenn., and Thompson-Boling Arena, the heart of all things Tennessee orange. And nothing was more orange in the spring of 1990 than Summitt and the Vols. They'd won two of the last three national titles, and on home court, they would be hard to handle.
But they didn't make it.
Summitt and the Vols got bounced from the NCAA Tournament and instead had to watch four teams come to their arena and see the Final Four go on without them.
