NORMAN — A day after a disastrous defensive performance in a 48-45 loss to Texas, Mike Stoops is out as defensive coordinator, sources confirmed to The Oklahoman on Sunday.
Stoops was let go after his defense surrendered 501 yards and 27 first downs to the Longhorns as well as the most points scored by Texas in the long rivalry's history.
Stoops is expected to be replaced by either Ruffin McNeill or Bob Diaco.
McNeill is in his second year as the Sooners' defensive tackles coach. He's previously served as defensive coordinator at Appalachian State, UNLV, Fresno State and Texas Tech in addition to head coaching experience at East Carolina.
