The New York football Giants traded Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland in the off-season and are counting on Sterling Shepard being their No. 1 wide receiver.
But Shepard’s ascension up the NFL food chain was derailed Thursday when he suffered a broken thumb in the Giants’ first training camp practice.
The New York Post reported that Shepard was injured while scooping up a low pass from quarterback Eli Manning, with cornerback Janoris Jenkins defending. Shepard made the catch but left the practice field and underwent X-rays.
Shepard, a Sooner star from 2012-15 with 233 career catches, 3,482 receiving yards and 26 touchdown catches, has been steady in his three years with the Giants.
